Zunda Milkshake
A Zunda Milkshake is a deliciously creamy drink made with edamame, a signature ingredient of Miyagi Prefecture in Japan. It’s sweet, nutty, and perfect for those who love unique flavors.
Ingredients (Serves 2):
- 1 cup shelled edamame (boiled and cooled)
- 2 cups milk (whole milk or plant-based options like oat or almond milk)
- 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1-2 teaspoons honey (optional, for extra sweetness)
- 4 scoops vanilla ice cream (or a plant-based alternative)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (to enhance flavor)
- Ice cubes (optional, for a thicker texture)
Optional Toppings:
- Whipped cream
- Crushed edamame or pistachios for garnish
- A drizzle of honey or condensed milk
Instructions:
- Prepare the Edamame:
- If using frozen edamame, boil them in salted water for about 3-5 minutes. Cool them under cold running water and remove the beans from the pods.
- Blend the Base:
- In a blender, combine the shelled edamame, milk, sugar, honey (if using), and salt. Blend until smooth and creamy. If you prefer a smoother texture, you can strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove any edamame skin.
- Add Ice Cream:
- Add the vanilla ice cream to the blender and blend again until the mixture is thick and frothy. If you like a thicker consistency, add a few ice cubes and blend again.
- Taste and Adjust:
- Taste the milkshake and adjust sweetness by adding more sugar or honey as desired.
- Serve:
- Pour the milkshake into glasses. Top with whipped cream, crushed edamame or pistachios, and a drizzle of honey or condensed milk for an extra indulgent touch.
Tips:
- For a vegan option, use plant-based milk and a dairy-free ice cream alternative.
- You can experiment with the sweetness level by reducing the sugar or substituting it with natural sweeteners like maple syrup.
- Serve chilled for the best flavor and texture.
