What you’ll need?
First off, let’s talk ingredients. You’ll need all-purpose flour, butter (unsalted, please), granulated sugar, an egg, vanilla extract, and of course, the star of the show: matcha powder.
Now, onto the fun part:
Why you should add matcha when making these yummy Japanese cookies!
- Flavor Fiesta: Matcha isn’t just any green powder – it’s a flavor powerhouse! When you toss it into your cookie dough, you’re not just adding taste; you’re adding a whole new dimension of yum. Picture this: earthy, slightly sweet, with a hint of zing. It’s like a party in your mouth!
- Eye Candy: Let’s talk aesthetics. Matcha gives your cookies that envy-inducing green hue that screams, “Look at me, I’m delicious!” They’ll stand out on any dessert spread, making your baking skills the talk of the town.
- Antioxidant Armor: Who knew cookies could be superheroes? Well, when you add matcha, they kinda are. Packed with antioxidants, matcha helps fight off those pesky free radicals, keeping your cells happy and healthy. So go ahead, indulge guilt-free!
- Energy Boost: Need a little pick-me-up? Matcha’s got your back. With just the right amount of caffeine and a dash of zen-inducing L-theanine, these cookies will give you the energy you need without the crash. Say goodbye to the midday slump!
- Nutrient Ninja: Say hello to your cookie’s secret weapon: nutrients! Matcha brings a whole bunch of vitamins, minerals, and fiber to the table, turning your sweet treats into nutritional powerhouses. Who said cookies can’t be good for you?
- Texture Magic: Ever bitten into a cookie and thought, “Wow, this is perfection”? That’s the matcha effect. Its fine texture blends seamlessly into dough, giving your cookies a velvety smoothness that’s downright irresistible.
- Mix-and-Matcha: The best part? Matcha plays well with others. Whether you’re whipping up classic sugar cookies or experimenting with fancy biscotti, matcha adds a touch of magic that takes your creations to the next level. Get ready to wow your taste buds!
So, why settle for ordinary cookies when you can have matcha-infused masterpieces? From flavor to nutrition to pure cookie joy, adding matcha to your baking repertoire is a true game-changer, I tell ya. Well, it definitely was for me when I first made them my self 😉
Easy Homemade Matcha Cookies Recipe
Ingredients:
- 75g sugar
- 30g matcha powder
- 270g all-purpose flour
- 175g unsalted butter
- 50g ground almonds
Instructions:
Step 1: In a small bowl, combine the sugar and matcha powder. This will prevent the matcha from clumping when mixed with other ingredients.
Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, ground almonds, and the sugar-matcha mixture. Cut the butter into coarse pieces and add it to the bowl. Using a knife, cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Then, use your hands to knead the mixture until a smooth dough forms. This may take about 10-15 minutes of kneading.
Step 3: Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape each portion into a log or roll. Wrap each roll tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or freeze for 10 minutes. Chilling the dough will make it easier to slice later.
Step 4: Preheat your oven to 170°C (340°F). Remove the chilled dough from the refrigerator and unwrap it. Using a sharp knife, slice the dough into 1cm thick rounds. Place the rounds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between each cookie.
Step 5: Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 12 to 13 minutes, or until the edges are set and just beginning to turn golden. Be careful not to over-bake them, as they should not brown too much.
Step 6: Once baked, remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. While still warm, roll the cookies in sugar to coat them evenly. You can use cane sugar for added flavor and texture.
Step 7: Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, store the matcha biscuits in an airtight container to maintain their freshness.
You can enjoy these delightful matcha biscuits with a cup of tea or coffee for a delightful treat any time of the day!
Instead of having a bite, you can also use any other neutral biscuit as a base for Matcha biscuits, because you just have to try! 🙂
